Did you know that: The container idea came from a pack of cigarettes?

It was 1937, when Malcolm McLean (American transportation entrepreneur), waiting for his turn to unload the truck, went to buy cigarettes. He looked at packets of cigarettes stacked in the vending machine, becoming aware of how much the container of cigarettes, the casing, facilitated transport and enjoyment of the content.

This idea took shape nineteen years later, on 26th April 1956 when, from the port of Newark, in the State of New Jersey, sailed the first container ship Ideal X. It had 58 containers on board, each of which contained almost 20 tons of cargo. This innovation led to a very rapid spread of the container worldwide.
